Equipment Installation & Commissioning

Installing complex biotech and bioprocess equipment is not a handoff—it is a continuation of design, fabrication, and accountability.

At Crawford Biotech, equipment installation is an integrated part of our turnkey delivery model. Because we design and manufacture the systems we install, we maintain responsibility for performance, fit, and execution from initial planning through commissioning.

Each project is supported by a dedicated project manager who remains involved through installation and training, providing a single point of coordination and accountability.

Installation Planning & Logistics

Effective installations start with planning.

When on-site installation is included, your project manager develops a detailed execution plan specific to your facility and operating constraints. This typically includes:

  • Transportation coordination, including specialized trucking and wide-load permitting
  • Site access and rigging planning
  • Coordination with facility teams and contractors
  • Installation sequencing to minimize disruption

Our role is to manage logistics and coordination so installation proceeds safely and efficiently.

Equipment Setting & Facility Integration

Once equipment arrives on site, Crawford Biotech executes equipment setting—the controlled placement of equipment into its final operating position based on approved layouts and process requirements.

This phase frequently involves:

  • Rigging and placement inside active facilities
  • Coordination with existing structures and utilities
  • Temporary or permanent building modifications when required

Because we design the equipment ourselves, placement and integration are handled with a clear understanding of system requirements, not assumptions made in the field.

Mechanical, Electrical & Process Installation

All equipment is fully assembled, wired, and tested at our facility prior to shipment. This upfront validation allows on-site installation to proceed with reduced risk and fewer unknowns.

Installation may include coordination or execution of:

  • Mechanical assembly and equipment integration
  • Electrical and plumbing connections
  • Process piping and sanitary welding
  • Boiler, chiller, and utility system integration
  • Ducting, flues, and fume removal systems

We routinely work with client-selected contractors or, when appropriate, deploy qualified Crawford Biotech personnel to complete the work.

Commissioning & Training

Installation is completed when systems are operating as intended and your team is prepared to use them.

Crawford Biotech supports commissioning activities and operator training to ensure a smooth transition from installation to operation, helping reduce startup delays and operational issues.

Typical Installation Scope

While each project is unique, installation scope commonly includes:

  • Field-fabricated tank installation or field fabrication of other components too large to ship or too wide to fit through the building opening
  • Equipment setting, rigging, and assembly
  • Electrical, plumbing, and utility connections
  • Removal of existing equipment
  • Process piping and sanitary welding
  • Work platforms, catwalks, and stair systems
  • Boiler and chiller system installation and pipefitting
  • Temporary facility modifications for equipment access
  • Ducting, flues, and fume extraction

Integrated Delivery, Single Accountability

Clients operating in regulated and complex environments choose Crawford Biotech because installation is not treated as a separate service.

By maintaining responsibility from design through commissioning, we reduce coordination risk, prevent scope gaps, and deliver systems that perform as intended within your facility.
